I'm having dinner here at a friends and found it odd that they keep their wine on window ledge outside to keep it slightly chilled. Strange, eh?

If there is no room in the refrigerator for something tall, I can see that makes great sense in the winter to store your wine on the window ledge. Away from those that might confiscate it and close enough to grab it for the pouring at the dinner table. Not everyone has 2 refrigerators like your Mom.
