Malham and Darwin

The last week has been pretty uneventful, just working at the Field Centre and job hunting online when I get home. My only bit of news is that I booked a flight to Rome on November 6th and that I've been semi-successful in communicating this week with people for possible jobs. I'll be moving into another cottage while I work the next month at the Field Centre, and then it's back to Italy!

I finished Oliver Twist and have started C.S. Lewis' 'The Screwtape Letters.' Twist was brutal near the end but came out okay, and Screwtape is kind of fascinating from a religious standpoint (don't worry Todd, it ain't Scientology so you don't have to run for the hills).

I recently discovered that the Malham Tarn Field Centre building may have once housed Charles Darwin, which is quite inspiring. One of the past owners claimed that he stayed here during the period in which he was afraid to publish 'Origin of Species,' and then there is also an article in some of his work where he mentions Malham and notes how the sheep only graze certain types of the grass, which is bad for the ecosystem and part of the reason they've brought in all different kinds of cows to preserve the moors. It's all really very exciting and makes me want to take up 'Origin' if I can just get my hands on a copy.

Well I guess that is all for now. I Hope everyone is well and I will try to post some pictures of the Field Centre for you to see. I've got to resume my studies in Italian so... Ciao!

yeah man, post some pics of the cottage. Mi Dad is a big CS Lewis fan, I am not sure if you have been to oxford, but I think his grave site is around there somewhere.

Hi Clint,
It sounds like things are looking up for you. I love reading your blogs and seeing the pictures. I am so proud of you! You are very resourceful. :-) I was especially happy to see that you have a roof over your head. I hope the job in Italy comes through. (hugs)
